Upload trades
One page brings trades in from any file your broker or another program gives you: an Excel or CSV file (in the Wealth Plus format or MProfit's), a contract note PDF, or a zip of contract notes with the ledger and holding statement. Nothing is saved until you have checked every row.
Open the Upload page
- Open Trades > Upload, or click Upload on the Trades page, or Upload trades on a portfolio page.
- Choose the portfolio at the top. When you come from a portfolio page it is already chosen.
- Pick one of the three choices below.
1. Excel or CSV file
- Choose the format:
- Wealth Plus: our template, a file made with Export in upload format, or a broker's tradebook with similar columns.
- MProfit: MProfit's Transaction Export, exactly as MProfit saves it.
- Choose the file and click Upload.
- The check screen shows every row as Ready, Duplicate or Error, with the reason.
- Click Save. Ready rows become trades; rows with errors are kept in Upload errors to fix later. Cancel saves nothing.
Sample files for both formats are at the bottom of the page. Date, type, scrip (name, symbol or ISIN), quantity and price are needed. Charges, ISIN, trade number, ratio, parent company and a Portfolio column are picked up when present, so one file can cover several portfolios. Numbers in lakh format such as 1,25,000.50 are fine. Only the first sheet of an Excel file is read.
MProfit files
- Company names are matched to scrips. Close matches are shown on the check screen in a From MProfit box for you to check.
- Splits, bonuses, demergers, mergers, IPO and rights, dividends and reinvested dividends are converted to Wealth Plus types. Options on the page let you leave out corporate action rows or dividends.
- A name that isn't found goes to Upload errors. Pick the scrip once with Remember this name ticked and the next MProfit file matches it.
2. Contract note
- Choose the broker. The portfolio's own broker is chosen for you.
- Choose one or several PDFs. Leave the password empty: it is tried from the portfolio's PAN, date of birth and client code.
- Click Upload, then Check and save to open the check screen.
Each note is also kept in Contract notes. For notes of many clients at once, use Bulk contract notes.
3. Zip: contract notes and ledger
Upload the broker's zip with contract notes, ledger and holding statement. Wealth Plus reads them, matches the ledger bills to the notes and lists the open points. See Import broker files.
Duplicates
A row is a duplicate when a trade with the same trade number, or the same date, type, scrip, quantity and price, is already saved. Duplicates are skipped, so uploading the same file twice is safe. Tick Save the duplicates too only when two identical trades really happened on the same day.
After saving
If any corporate action applies to the holdings you just uploaded, you are taken to Corporate actions with those portfolios selected, so you can apply them. If the portfolio has a default brokerage, charges are worked out for trades saved without them (see Brokerage and interest).
- "Scrip not found"
- The name or symbol in your file isn't one Wealth Plus knows, often an old symbol. Save the rest, then fix the row in Upload errors and tick Remember this name.
- "Price missing"
- A buy at price 0 with amount 0 is read as free shares (bonus). A real purchase needs its price.
- Every row is an error
- The columns weren't recognised, or the wrong format was chosen. Compare your headings with the sample file.
- My broker isn't in the list
- Upload its tradebook as Excel or CSV instead, and send a sample contract note to [email protected] so we can add a reader.
