Trades and income
The Trades screen lists every transaction of the portfolios you can see, and is where you add, change or delete one by hand. Holdings, gains and every report are worked out from these trades each time they open, so a change here shows everywhere at once.
Find trades
Choose a portfolio (or family) at the top, then filter by date, scrip or type. The Dividends and income tab holds dividends and interest received.
Add a trade by hand
- Click Add trade and pick the portfolio.
- Choose the type (see the table), the date and the scrip. Start typing the name, symbol or ISIN to find it. The portfolio's own custom scrips are listed first.
- Enter quantity and price. For a buy, sell, opening or IPO the Amount is quantity × price, filled in for you and not editable. For a split, consolidation, demerger or merger, enter the ratio, the parent company or the cost moved, as asked.
- Charges: if the portfolio has a default brokerage set, the charge boxes are hidden and the charges are worked out when you save (see Brokerage and interest). Otherwise, or with Enter the contract note's charges instead, type the brokerage, GST, STT, stamp duty, exchange charges, SEBI fee and other charges from the note.
- Save.
| Type | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Buy / Sell | Normal trades. |
| Opening | Shares already held before you started, with the date they were really bought (this decides long or short term). |
| IPO / Rights | Shares allotted in an IPO or a rights issue you took up. |
| Bonus | Bonus shares, at nil cost, held from the bonus date. |
| Split / consolidation | Changes the quantity by the ratio; cost and dates stay. |
| Demerger (new) / Demerger (parent) | Shares of the new company received; part of the parent's cost moves to them, keeping the parent's purchase dates. |
| Merger (shares received) | The old company's lots move to the new company with the same cost and dates. |
Bonus, split, demerger, merger and dividends are usually quicker from Corporate actions, which works out the quantities for you. Futures and options have their own screen: F&O, currency and commodity. Click a company name in the list to open its company page.
Export
- Export downloads the list as you see it.
- Export in upload format writes every trade and dividend in the columns of the Upload page, so the file can be edited and uploaded again, or kept as a backup. The From / To dates limit it.
Dividends and income
On the Dividends and income tab, add the date, scrip, gross amount and TDS; the net is worked out. Dividends applied from Corporate actions appear here with TDS 0; edit them if tax was deducted.
The 3-day rule
- Family Head and own portfolio logins can add, change or delete trades dated up to 3 days back.
- Anything older is sent for approval instead of being saved, and you are taken to Trade approvals. It is applied only when your firm approves it.
- Firm staff can enter past-dated trades freely.
"Check these"
A box at the top of the Trades page (and on each report) lists anything that stops the gains from being right:
- Sale larger than the holding
- A purchase is missing. Usually an opening holding bought before your first contract note: add it as Opening with the real purchase date.
- No 31-Jan-2018 price
- Needed for shares bought before February 2018 and sold long term. Write to [email protected] with the scrip name.
- Demerger without a parent
- Edit the demerger row and choose the parent company.
