Brokerage and interest

Where in the app
Portfolio > Brokerage & interest; Trades > Interest & F&O margin
Who can use it
  • Firms (Firm Admin)

Each portfolio can have a default brokerage, so trades saved without charges get them worked out, and interest, so the cost of funding purchases or a debit balance is charged month by month. Both are optional. Interest is part of the family and firm plans, not the free plan.

Set it up

  1. When you add a portfolio, answer Set a default brokerage? and Charge interest?. Yes to either opens this page after saving. For an existing portfolio, click Brokerage & interest on its page.
  2. For brokerage, set a rule for each of delivery, intraday, futures, options, currency and commodity: a % of value (with an optional minimum and maximum per order) or a flat amount per order.
  3. For interest, switch it on and choose the kinds and rates (table below).
  4. Save. For trades already saved without charges, click Recalculate charges once.

How charges are worked out

  • Only trades saved with no brokerage and no charges are worked out. Trades from contract notes or files that carry charges are never changed.
  • Brokerage comes from this page; STT, exchange charges, SEBI fee, stamp duty and GST come from the rates in force on the trade date.
  • Shares bought and sold on the same day count as intraday; the rest as delivery.
  • If someone types a trade's charges in by hand later, those are kept and not worked out again.

Kinds of interest

KindCharged on
Scrip-wise, every buyEach buy's cost, from the buy date to the sale date, first in first out. A rate for the portfolio, or per scrip.
Scrip-wise, funded (MTF) buys onlyThe funded part of the buys you mark as funded.
Unpaid purchasesA purchase bill from its date (after any grace days) until money paid in or sale proceeds pay it.
Ledger debit balanceEach day's debit balance in the Financial ledger.
F&O margin usedEach day's end-of-day margin, from the margin file you load.

Nothing is charged twice: on any day, unpaid-purchase interest covers only what scrip-wise interest doesn't, and debit-balance interest only what is left after both. With +1 day on, both the first and last day count.

Post it to the ledger

  1. Open Trades > Interest & F&O margin to see interest month by month, with the details. Load the end-of-day margin file here too.
  2. Click Post to the Financial Ledger. Each complete month (or quarter) becomes an Interest charged debit on its last day. Posting again replaces it.

Reports > Ledger with Interest shows every ledger line with the interest that ran on it, a total at each month end, and whether that month is posted, not posted yet, or needs posting again because a trade changed. Interest Statement gives the totals by kind.

A trade has no charges
The portfolio has no default brokerage for that kind of trade, or the trade was saved before it was set. Click Recalculate charges.
"Posted ₹X, now works out to ₹Y"
A trade or payment in that month changed after posting. Post the month again.
